A troubled Southend United, cheered on by a vociferous travelling contingent of nearly 900 were buoyed by a positive start with front man Sam Dalby putting the Shrimpers ahead after just 10 minutes.
Unfortunately for the Essex coast faithful that was as good as it got on an afternoon that saw the Magpies finally get their act together and put the visitors to the sword.
Key match stats.
As the chart above shows, despite a good start with the early goal Southend were pretty much second best in all actions.
What is interesting is the match tempo for both teams is high and it would be hard to argue with that as both sides played their part in a high intensity encounter.
It was Notts who eventually took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half where the visitors were forced to retreat deeper as Ian Burchnall's side laid siege to the Southend goal.
Points needed updated and 1.842 PPG on average would historically see a top 3 finish. It still remains to be seen if Chesterfield and Boreham can continue to accrue points at their current rate as we head into the New Year and the second half of the season.

Expected goals and the highest xG recorded by Notts for the season so far.
No fewer than 9 Notts players with attempts on goal for this game which is an indication of how much emphasis is put on the playing system and not reliant on individual players.
Kyle Wootton maybe should have had a hattrick with his headed chance in the first half which was recorded as 0.40 xG. His first goal had the highest recorded xG at 0.57 and Ruben Rodrigues managed to sky a 0.45 chance over the bar from 6 yards out.
Notts' dominance after conceding the early goal was confirmed with the chances created suggesting 2.540 xPTS (expected points) and a win percentage of 80.25%.
National League goal scorers includes cup games, penalties and own goals.
Ian Burchnall's record updated after 42 games.
Another break from the league this weekend with a Saturday evening FA Trophy tie at home to Altrincham before all eyes turn to Chesterfield away on the 21st December.
